Community Spotlight: Kris

Next up in our Community Spotlight series is Kris, who's been handling private app distribution with Android Enterprise since 2020 and was around for the early days of private Play Store reviews. Here's a bit more about him.

How long have you been part of the Android Enterprise Community and why did you join?

I joined the community in late 2024. I needed to verify my developer accounts. With only a few weeks left before the deadline, I faced the risk of having the accounts suspended, which would have cut employees off from the apps they need for their day-to-day work.

How long have you been working with Android Enterprise? What prompted the start of your journey with the product and what does your day-to-day look like now?

I have been working with Android Enterprise since 2020. Back then, I was already handling app distribution directly through the EMM. Transitioning to Android Enterprise required coaching all developer teams to deliver APKs and App Bundles compliant with Google Play Console standards. My background supporting public Play Store releases was a major asset during that shift.

In the early days of private Play Store distribution, apps were subject to heavy reviews! While the process is much smoother today, there is still room for key features and improvements.

When you are not working, what do you like doing?

I have three passions, so I'm never short of things to do: video games, cinema, and travel.

Gaming is a passion I share with my 14-year-old son. Since I’m a collector, parting with my old consoles is out of the question. Our home is packed with Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo machines. In late August, we had a fantastic day at Gamescom in Cologne.

Fun fact: I discovered Google Stadia during COVID, and I absolutely loved it. It let me experience Cyberpunk 2077 under great conditions!

Watching a movie in theaters is also something very important to me. While I wouldn't call myself a hardcore cinephile, I enjoy all kinds of genres, especially science fiction.

I also love traveling with my family, whether it's a road trip in an electric car or in an RV. My last big trip was a 4-week road trip across the American West, driving from San Francisco down to Los Angeles with a stop in Las Vegas to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary! Naturally, I couldn't resist stopping by Mountain View, no explanation needed there.

On every trip, we have one goal: visiting theme parks. To say California delivered would be an understatement.

An interesting fact about yourself (could be your favourite movie, tv show, album or something entirely random!)

I serve on the board of directors of a medico-social institute. I recently had the opportunity to meet Martin Caouette and gain valuable insights into self-determination for people with disabilities.

What is the one thing you cannot live without?

My family and friends. Earlier this year, a medical diagnosis confirmed a degenerative disease for a family member, which has made me even more convinced that we must cherish our loved ones as much as possible.

What's your soft spot when it comes to food?

I'm originally from Brittany, and as cliché as it sounds, I love eating crêpes. But I'm a purist, no more than three ingredients. Having lived in the Nantes area for over 20 years, finding an authentic crêperie has been quite a struggle, so here's my best-kept secret in Nantes: HEB KEN.

To wrap it up, do you have a favourite tip on using Android Enterprise that you would like to share?

What I appreciate the most is how easy it is to publish private apps. The work the Android Enterprise teams have put into making this process as seamless as possible is truly outstanding.

Huge thanks to Kris for taking the time to answer these, and for sharing a bit of his world with us, crêpes and all. Fancy asking him something yourself?

Who else has a house full of consoles they're not allowed to get rid of?

Where's the best crêpe you've ever had, and how many ingredients is too many?

Got a question for Kris about publishing private apps?

Cheers,
Kirk
