Let’s share some fun facts about each other!

Hi everyone, 
 

Whenever a new colleague joins the office, as we are introducing ourselves, we take the opportunity to share a “fun fact” and break the ice.

As time went by, we started noticing that some of us tend to reuse the same fact or rotate a selection of those - but what really matters is the intention behind it: making the new teammate feel welcomed and learn something new about each other. 

 

So I thought it would be great to do that exercise here in the community!
 

I’ll make a start: I have a small, but well tended and cherished music home studio that I recently used to score an independent short film.

 

Now it’s your turn: what is your fun fact?

      Its a nice idea! I’ll have to keep this in mind. 

       

      I love working in IT, but in my personal time I like to try and stay away from tech when I can by working with dogs. A long time passion has recently turned into a growing business on the side. I train search dogs and design and sell training materials to other people all over the world.

        That’s so cool, Michel! Very impressive that you have designed training materials as well.

        I reckon that aligning something that we love with a side hustle is a great way to spend more time involved with it 🐶

          I have a music related one as well. I am a DJ and focus on indie and tech house primarily. My DJ name is DERMANO, you can find me on SoundCloud. I am combining my two worlds by building a spectral analysis app called dRIP that can be used by other DJs to validate the quality of their files before attempting to play them on a club system. It’s iOS only for now, but I’ll be porting it to Android soon.

            Following up on what I mentioned to Michel before, your app is yet another great example of combining something you feel very enthusiastic about with a side gig (no pun intended 😆 ).

            Since I’m the new kid on the block I thought I’d pop in, refresh this and take the opportunity for my fun fact!

            It seems I have some common ground here - I used to play a Bb Cornet in a colliery/brass band for many years and then started playing piano during COVID to maintain a semblance of sanity!

            Since then I play in a few cover bands with friends and I’m helping one write her debut album.

            Other than that I have two dogs to keep me busy and get away from the computer screen for a while.
