Android Device Policy visibilty in Google Play
Hello folks :)
I’ve noticed recently when looking for ADP in Google Play, searches no longer return the app. I can understand it turning into a system app the idea is probably to reduce the visibility akin to what happens with Play Services, Webview, etc that require a bit more persistence to find them on-device .. but ADP visibitility is important for two common scenarios:
- EMM guidance for BYO has been for a long time “find the app on play, scan a QR, and enrol” - are there other ways? Yes. Through settings, etc.. fine, but my preference is to send folks to the Play Store to ensure it’s also up to date before users start trying to enrol
- Semi-official recommendations in the past have suggested it reasonable to include ADP in the EMM applications list for greater control over the agressiveness of updates rolling out to devices and so forth, if customers can’t find the app in Play, that option becomes the more difficult “paste this packagename into the system app entry” - which sucks.
I’m not sure how long it’s been like this, it’s not something I check on frequently, but nonetheless I do want to make the case to bring search visibility back in both the Play iFrame and on-device Play Store please!
