Question

AssistContentPolicy management type availability

I’m trying to determine whether the https://developers.google.com/android/management/reference/rest/v1/enterprises.policies#assistcontentpolicy
is available for BYOD devices?

I’m unable to determine what management types it’s available for, usually most settings state they are only available for Corporate Owned work profile devices or fully managed devices  for example. I’m trying to get support from Microsoft (Who are insistent it’s not available for BYOD) to ensure this is available for BYOD devices as we currently have an issue where privileged apps (Assistant apps i.e. Gemini) can grab the screen content from a work profile device.

Thanks for your help!

    Hello @GMenzies,

I hope you are doing well. Just a quick check, which OS level are you looking to implement this policy control on?

    Thanks,
    Lizzie

I’m good thanks, how are you?

Looking to apply this for Android 15 and above devices as per the API requirements.

    Thanks,

    Greig

    Hello @GMenzies,

Thanks for your patience on this (and happy Friday),

Looking into this, the AMAPI policy that you have mentioned above should work for BYOD, but I believe Intune is using a Custom DPC solution for BYOD.

With this in mind, I wonder if you have checked with Intune if they have the API setting that’s mapped to this policy available instead? https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/UserManager#DISALLOW_ASSIST_CONTENT

It would be great to hear how you get on. Speak soon.

    Thanks,
    Lizzie

Intune is using DPC currently but they are moving to AMAPI for BYOD, I just wanted to get information from Google to confirm it was available in AMAPI for BYOD enrollments so I can ask Microsoft to implement it as they are stating it isn’t available for a BYOD enrollment.

    Thanks Lizzie!
