Bug? G-board removes additional languages post BYOD Enrollment?

We noticed a strange behaviour, If G-board has additional languages added apart from English like Polish or German, post enrolling into a work profile, the additional languages disappear from the keyboard. I was able to reproduce with Intune, WorkspaceOne and even TestDPC app. This is true even if no Device Restrictions are applied. It seems like a bug. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I’ve checked with our team and they’ve said that the behaviour you described is related to how Android Enterprise and Gboard handle the creation of a Work Profile.

 

When a Work Profile is created, Android essentially sets up a new user space on the device that shares certain services with the personal profile.

 

During this process, Gboard's configuration is reset to default. This default state is based on the device's primary system language (in your case, English). The user-added languages, which are stored within Gboard's app data, are cleared during this reset.

 

It’s also possible to set a language and push it with Gboard Managed Configuration.

    Agreed and that's expected, however the issue is specifically with the Personal Profile. Pre-existing Gboard language settings that users had configured before enrollment are being unexpectedly reset/removed after work profile creation. While we expect the Work Profile to start with default settings, the Personal Profile's existing Gboard configurations should remain untouched but they're being cleared, which is the unexpected behavior we're reporting.

     

    It seems I am no longer able to reproduce this, so it probably got fixed in one of the updates. Thanks for checking in with the team!
