[Day 6] - Introducing a mobile first/only digital environment, Android-based.

In a rapidly changing industrial landscape, innovation now hinges on fully integrated mobility at the heart of digital tools. The transition from Windows to android devices is no longer simply about swipping devices; it requires rethinking the work environment itself, freeing it from the constraints of fixed workstations in favor of mobile, agile solutions grounded in real-world situations.

With this in mind, our SMART MOBILITY project addresses the growing demand for efficient and secure mobile solutions in industrial environments as a first step. We have designed a secured work environment natively for smartphones, capable of covering all the daily tasks of a field worker.

This comprehensive, fully mobile approach aims to replace PC use where it becomes cumbersome, providing a high-performance, sustainable alternative that better aligns with the expectations of new generations, who prioritize intuitive, mobile interfaces accessible in all circumstances.

I fully agree and also looking forward to similar transformation in our area as well.

Having one device, configured to be used in multiple flexible ways.

The most likely only 2 things us holding back are:

  • software for example POS which not being independent from any other system (like a server) to be able to work offline if needed
  • OS not providing Desktop mode in a suitable way (yet)
  • Google limiting admins on fully managed devices more and more but they need to revert back so we get full permissions from MDM side (it's a bit different on a BYOD and even COPE ofc)

But i think/hope we will see this transformation happening in the next years more and more around (i won't stop poking relevant parties 😇 everytime it fits like here).

Another benefit in my opinion in the switch from Windows to Android is the way faster (RE-)setup of a device if really nothing else helps or for any other reason.

Thanks You Emilie, it is an all day team work with our colleagues. The harder is to keep something stable, especially with mobile apps that are updated very often with new challenging features that may cause bugs or security breaches. I think @Bigdogburr will agree to tell it is part of resiliency. 😀
