Question

Google Play Store “/work” is being phased out?

Hey!

We recently noticed that a banner is displayed on https://play.google.com/work/apps . According to this, /work will be terminated on April 15.

I am aware that the page is generally somewhat outdated and is intended for deprecated EMM APIs. (e.g. https://developers.google.com/android/work/play/emm-api/v1/products/approve )

/work has always been useful for us when it comes to getting a first impression of an app. By replacing /store with /work in the store URL, you could see immediately whether the app was available for Managed Play and offered an AppConfig.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.tachyon

https://play.google.com/work/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.tachyon

Will the pages be discontinued without replacement, or is there an alternative? (I mean, yes, you can see everything in the iFrame, but the hurdle for /work was very low and therefore very practical).

Completely agree with this sentiment. That is exactly how we handle initial cursory research into a mobile app we are being tasked to distribute through Managed Play.

I starting seeing the same message indicating termination April 15th 2016.

I also agree this statement above from Alex_Muc as well as this was an invaluable resource for getting info on a mobile app before approving for our organization and searching an approved app or an app requiring new permissions approval when a vendor updates an app.

Will there be an alternative or replacement for this?

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. Haven’t seen this popup yet, but If this page isn’t available anymore, how would we access the admin settings on that page?

Not all customers can and want to migrate to Google admin console yet, so this is a nice way to see if and with what details they use AE. The migration to Google Admin console isn’t going very smoothly for half my customers, so i’m reluctant to promote it at this point.

Thanks so much @Alex_Muc for creating this post and for highlighting. I’m hoping to share more on this shortly. It’s good to hear your questions on this, so I’ll try and come back to those for you.

Hey @Alex_Muc, @mattdermody, @Michel, @RichRam, @SebGR

Thank so much again for your comments and feedback. I’ve just shared a service announcement with a bit more information around this.

I’ve been chatting with our engineers and in the SA you will see that the deprecation date has been pushed back to May 15th, this is based on your feedback here. Hopefully this will give you a little more time. The announcement on the /work page will update shortly to reflect this change (but wanted to let you know).

All of the search functionality and app information is fully available via the iframe in your EMM console. I acknowledge this maybe different to how you like to like to use the /work page at the moment, and I’ll continue exploring your feedback here.

Michel - regarding your question you will still be able to access admin settings, there are some details on this in the announcement, but let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks again (and special thanks you to Alex for starting this topic off).

Lizzie

There are people that do not have access to our MDM iframe and evaluate if the apps are available in certain countries. they use this page to learn more about the apps.

Are you also sure that all MDM support iframe now. I remember many years ago, even Citrix Endpoint Manager did not support this (now they do.)

Most MDM’s i’ve seen support it, I think just the tropical MDM solutions might not have implemented this.
