I've looked into this with EMM API Access.

"appRestrictionsSchema" is empty in the MGP-Response. Therefore, there's no information about managed configurations in Managed Google Play.

But I've decompiled the latest app and it seems like, that the managed configurations should be available in for the app.

Do they work with the latest version on the devices?

In Soti you "grab" the app from playstore and enable "managed app config".
Then it normally shows up to be changed but stays empty.

So when you do so, it's grabbing always the latest version from the playstore.

Yup, the MDM pulls the App Information from MGP. It contains the "appRestrictionsSchema" for all available managed configurations from that app. That's awesome, because you don't have to know the config-keys.

But in this case, MGP doesn't have any config-keys for Gboard.

I've tested on our EMM too, and I can confirm that the managed configuration is not available for this app anymore, might be a bug but it's not available. The play store does not display the managed configuration icon for this app.

Hi to all of you!

We're experiencing the same issue both with Samsung Knox Manage than with Microsoft Intune and Omnissa Workspace ONE

For what I see on Knox Manage console, the pre-existing configurations still remains from the console side..

..while new assignations are not possibile..

It would be handy to understand if the pre-existing configurations are still up and running on devices

@StefanoWith WorkspaceONE you don't have to worry about this for the time being. There you can manually enter Config Keys, Value Type and Values. Despite the current problem, WorkspaceONE sends the existing AppConfig to Google Play. Ideally, you should not change the assignment for the time being.

Some configurations appear to be nested. This is not supported in the UI of WS1 for the manual input of the AppConfig. In Magcho's screenshot, the first entry is “preferences”. This is the array name. (and Value Type = "bundle", what WS1 does not support here) Correcting this configuration immediately could invalidate all nested configurations.

I have created a manual configuration. The configuration arrives at the device and is also applied by Gboard. The config for the size ratios are not nested. Fortunately, the fact that the Gboard is suddenly twice as high can be seen very quickly as feedback. 😆

Confirming I am seeing the same issue across numerous versions of SOTI MobiControl ranging from 15.x through 2025.1. I have not had any reports of existing configurations disappearing from devices already deployed however. Wild to think that Google could mess up Managed Configurations in one of their own apps. Hope this can be addressed quickly.

I'm reaching out to see if there has been any update from the Dev Team on this?

I noticed that a new version of Gboard was released in the play store since we started seeing this issue. v15.3.10.745389837 is released now, but still missing the Managed App Config options in our MDMs (SOTI, 42Gears, Intune, etc). This is unfortunately having a negative impact on device deployments for us. One thing that was noticed, is that if we scrape the APK from the playstore and then upload it to the "Enterprise App Repository" in SOTI or 42Gears, then the managed app schema comes back and can be pushed via the MDM, bypassing the managed google play mechanism.

Any updates on the dev tickets to fix this bug would be appreciated so it can be communcated to our customers.
