Widgets missing after Android 17 upgrade on devices with a work profile

After upgrading my Google Pixel 9 Pro with a personally-owned work profile enrolled in Intune, all the widgets disappeared from my home and lock screens. This is happening to others as well as evidenced by these posts in other communities:

Additionally, I cannot add the widgets back. The widget picker only shows a limited number of widgets and seems to exclude widgets that display personal information. For example, the Google Calendar or Google Tasks widgets. Other widgets that simply function as a shortcut are unaffected.

Widgets in the personal profile can be restored by pausing and unpausing the app for the widget you want. However, after rebooting, the widgets are lost again.

Widgets in the work profile can be restored by toggling the Allow widgets from work profile apps setting in a policy from the EMM to Not configured, letting the device sync and then toggling back to Enabled. Again, after rebooting, this fix is lost.

Additionally, the search bar at the bottom of the Pixel Launcher now opens Chrome when tapped instead of opening a search prompt in the normal fashion. Some are saying Google Support told them to reset their Pixel Launcher app to fix this. In other threads, Google Support says to simply send feedback.

Anyone have any idea what’s going on here?

Hey @okmick (sorry for the second ping so quickly),

I’ve just got an update about this and wanted to make sure it’s passed over to you.

Our engineering team are aware of this bug affecting Work Profile users, so the team are certainly working on it. I can confirm that a fix will be rolled out in a software update soon.

Once we have more details on this, @Kirk or myself will keep you and the rest of the community updated on this.

I really hope this isn’t impacting your work too much. Please do keep me posted and thank you for highlighting this here in the community.

Speak to you soon and enjoy the rest of your day.

Thanks again,
Lizzie

@Lizzie @Kirk @weberda Looks like this was fixed in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 which was released on June 23rd.

Android Developers | Android 17 Release Notes | Top issues fixed in Beta 5 (June 2026)

Home screen widgets would disappear or become unavailable in the widget picker after a device reboot. (Issue #488125748Issue #505117543Issue #505671079Issue #497140330Issue #506685943Issue #510967059)

I installed Beta 6 on my Pixel 9 Pro with an Intune policy set to allow widgets in the work profile and can confirm that the issue has been fixed.

If I am interpreting the new Android release schedule correctly, Android 17 QPR1 should come out of beta and be released to the public sometime in September.

Thanks Okmick for sharing, this is good timing as I have been wanting to come back to you. We are hoping to get the fix out more widely in a July update (obviously subject to change). I’ll keep you posted, but worth keeping an eye out.

Thanks so much,

Lizzie
