Work Profile Notifications No Longer Available on Garmin Watch After Samsung A57 Upgrade

About two weeks ago, I replaced my work phone, a Samsung A54, with a Samsung A57. On my previous phone, I had a pair of Garmin Vivomove Trend watches connected, and I was receiving notifications from both my personal profile (such as SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.) and my work profile (such as Outlook, MS Teams, and similar applications).

After switching to the Samsung A57, notifications from the work profile stopped appearing on my watch. I have thoroughly checked all Garmin Connect settings, phone settings, and also reviewed the configuration together with our company's administrators to verify whether the issue could be related to the Company Portal settings or any associated policies.

The conclusion is that the new Android version appears to block this functionality, and it simply no longer works. I have also found discussions about this issue on various forums.

I would like to know whether there are any plans to re-enable or restore this functionality in the future, as receiving work-related notifications on a smartwatch is a very important feature in everyday use. Alternatively, has there been any consideration of transferring the decision-making authority to individual company administrators, allowing them to decide whether to permit or block this functionality according to their organization's policies?

From an end-user perspective, the current approach feels unnecessarily restrictive and bureaucratic, and it significantly reduces user convenience.

Thank you in advance for any information, clarification, or possible solution you may be able to provide.

Hi Kirk,

Thank you very much for your reply. I will pass this information on to our IT colleagues.

Interestingly, today one of my teammates came across a workaround on a forum. The suggestion was to install Outlook or MS Teams in the personal profile as well as in the work profile. According to the post, this might make notifications work again, even without actually signing in to Outlook or Teams in the personal profile.

I decided to give it a try, and unbelievably, it worked! I immediately started receiving notifications from my work profile again, including Outlook emails and Teams messages on my Garmin watch.

So, for now, I seem to have found a temporary solution, and perhaps this could also serve as a useful hint for others experiencing the same issue.

I just hope that by sharing this workaround publicly, I'm not accidentally triggering the development of a security patch to close it! 😊

Thanks again for your help

Hi @Zuzana

Welcome to the community, hope you’re well!

We had a colleague check their Garmin watch and they seemed to be receiving WP notifications. so it doesn't look like a blanket platform-level restriction. That does suggest something more specific to your setup, your device, or the jump from A54 to A57 might be at play.

Could it perhaps be related to this issue?

It's written primarily around Galaxy Watch, so it's not a direct match, but the Knox policy behaviour it describes around work profile notifications on wearables could still be relevant given the Knox version differences between the two devices.

The best next step from here would be asking your IT admin to raise a support ticket with your EMM provider. They'll be best placed to dig into what's restricting the notification path from the work profile to your watch, and to loop in Samsung if needed.

Cheers,
Kirk

Hey Zuzana,

Well, what do you know!?

Glad to hear that workaround...works, at least as a temporary solution and thank you for taking the time to share it with the wider community.

We’ll see if we can reach out to Garmin too to at least put in on their radar if it isn’t already.

Cheers,
Kirk
