Data Masking with Chrome

Hello everyone!
I’m looking to see if there is someone else who manage to deploy the data masking feature successful since is something quite new.
I want to apply a DLP rule that masks sensitive information, but I need it to be selective depending on the user's role/level.

The main goal is to have the word REDACTED inside a Sheet/Docs file, and if the user who is accessing is not part of an exclusion group previously created the email field should appear REDACTED.

Im able to create the rule and make some test, but i was not able to manage the data masking work inside the Docs / Sheets file. Is this not supported ?

Hi Naza,

To get a better understanding of what you have completed I might need some additional information. FIrst, could you check you followed the setup process [HERE]. You might need to add Google Docs/Sheets to the list here.
Then check you DLP rules in the same way [HERE].

Once you have confirmed you have applied and created the rules let me know and I can continue to help if needed.

Thanks

Olly

Hi Olly,

The rule is created and working, i was able to configure some things and now the REDACTED text appear in Google Sheets and in Google Docs NAME,

But it doesn’t mask inside a Google Doc. I have attached an image as reference as you can see the tittle appear redacted but the text inside the doc is not “redacted”
From what i was able to check with a colleagues this is a limitation due the canvas method for processing Google Docs. Would be nice to have the confirmation of this and if is planned for a future.

Whilst I'm waiting on a response to from the Workspace team, it would indeed appear that when you are accessing a document to edit the function of Masking does not trigger (which I think is working as designed, but let me check).
The JS is different from Sheets to Docs and so Masking behaves a little differently.

The workspace team might have better detail than myself on this so lets wait to hear what they say.
