Hello everyone,

And thank you Lizzie for the introduction!

My name is Emilie.

Here’s a little bit about me:

  • I come from a social media background, where I worked for about 10 years, give or take 🤓
  • I speak French fluently and I am learning Spanish
  • I absolutely adore dogs and have been volunteering in that field for 8 years 🐶
  • I started a podcast last summer 🎙️
  • And I eat pizza every Friday night - a nice ritual to kickstart the weekend 🍕

Please let me know a bit about yourself so that we can get to know each other, such as:

  • What languages do you speak?
  • What is your favourite food?
  • How did you get into your current career?
  • What was your first piece of tech?

Looking forward to speaking with you.

Chat soon,

Emilie

Welcome here in the community and looking forward to read from you😀

I guess @Lizzie introduced at least some of the most active users here already to you but if you will participate in the next PES, maybe it's possible to know each other there better (if I'm allowed to join as well 😛).

My main language is German but at work most likely English. I learned French a bit in the past but forgot all about it as i never needed to used it.

Yeah dogs are nice, we also got one now since ~6 months from animal rescue and don't want to miss her (Bernese Mountain dog + ??) anymore as she is very nice and calm.

Favourite food i can just agree on Pizza and just last week we tried a new receipt which took way longer time than we normally do but it was worth it^^

Into my current career i got because i was repairing phones before and I'm also very interested in general into technical stuff, so even i never learned IT stuff as a apprenticeship, i ended up as IT supporter main responsible for our mobile devices in our company.

I can't remember my first piece of tech but i guess my first self owned PC is something which was very important as at that time with LAN-partys and so on a lot stuff learning was starting and growing interest. That's also why I'm main responsible for technical questions inside our family.

So, i guess that's enough to write ;)

Read you soon.

Thank you for the warm welcome @Moombas  ☺️

I am not sure which events I will attend yet - there are quite a few happening in the next few weeks and months. So, plenty of opportunities to meet face to face!

It is nice that you speak multiple languages; I watched a video at the weekend that was about how the brain keeps getting rid of “old” knowledge to make room for new learnings. “If you don’t use it, you lose it” is a fact!

What is your dog’s name? The dog in the picture is Jax - he was found on the street when he was only 5 months old and we’re not sure what breed(s) he is. He’s been living his best life since we adopted him, that is for sure 🥰

Did you make your own pizza?! That is fantastic - you should definitely share the recipe with us…👀

Apprenticeships are a great way to learn; do you have an apprentice you’re mentoring or are you thinking of getting one on board?

I remember LAN parties! I have a friend who used to go to them every weekend. He still goes but less often since he’s had kids. My first piece of tech was an Amiga computer that I was using to play games on. 😅

Chat soon,

Emilie

Bienvenue Emilie !🙂

My main language is French.
Favourite food : Raclette but also Pizza
Into my current career i got after learned IT and after several customer projects with an IT consulting company, I've been hired by my current company to manage mobile terminals
My first pieces of tech were PC on MS-DOS and Sega Megadrive when I was a child 😅

Merci, Flo!

Raclette is a very strong contender - funnily enough, I eat raclette quite often (and even had it in summer because there’s no time like the present for cheese!).

What an interesting career path! How many mobile terminals do you manage at the moment? Are you managing the devices solo or as part of a team?

I had a Sega Megadrive too 🎮 What are the odds?! Which game was your favourite? I had a fighting game that was so much fun (and of which I can’t remember the name 😅)

Welcome Emilie!

What languages do you speak? Gibberish

What is your favourite food? Love a Carbonara

How did you get into your current career? Someone offered me money to tinker with mobile devices one time, and it's mostly spiralled from there.

What was your first piece of tech? It was a Windows 98 PC back in ~2000, the family wasn't in much of a rush to adopt tech.

Look forward to chatting (and @ing) more :)

Thank you Jason!

I think I’m fluent in Gibberish too, actually - thanks for the reminder!

A good carbonara hits the spot every time. Are you following the traditional recipe with egg yolks and pecorino cheese?

If you’re happy to share, how many devices do you currently manage?

“Windows 98”...wow, this brings back memories! 🥲

Oh I don't make it, it's a go-to (outside of Axe Steak, eh Lizzie?) when I go out to eat. Can't go wrong with pizza either mind.

Devices in the region of 500k, across quite a few customers :)

Trumpet fare? Sure!
Retotatototato!

Welcome to the AE Community. 😀

  • I speak German and English. I once started speaking Japanese for a trip to Japan, but stopped again due to a lack of motivation. 😅
  • My favorite food is definitely pizza and casseroles.
  • I did an IT training and worked for a while in mobile network rollout. So I set up LTE base stations and also site management for radio links.
I then wanted to do more “IT” again and switched to “the other side” over 11 years ago. Back then, we used smartphones with Android 4. 😄
  • I certainly had tech devices when I was younger, but as a teenager I delivered newspapers and used the money to buy a digital camera. At that time, people almost exclusively took analog photos. 📷

Thank you for bringing the actual trumpets out, Alex 🎺🎺🎺

And thank you for welcoming me!

Japanese? Wow, that’s a complicated language to learn! Did you take classes or did you use an app?

If you have any casseroles recipes to share, please do - I’m always on the lookout for new delicious recipes to try 😋

Android 4 - codename Ice Cream Sandwich - takes us all back to 2011! This feels like yesterday 😅

I love that you worked delivering newspapers to buy yourself a camera. Do kids still deliver newspapers where you live?

I learned to develop analog pictures at university and it was a lot of fun 📸

Nowadays you would just start with Duolingo. But 10 years ago, I got myself exercise books. In addition to the recommended words in the exercise book, I picked out vocabulary myself and learned it with flashcards (analog, but also via app). I practiced hiragana and katakana with a boogie board. I would still be interested in learning Japanese, but French or Spanish would actually make much more sense as an additional foreign language. 😄

I can send you recipes. However, I don't actually have recipes for some dishes because I make them by feel and may use leftover ingredients. Only with lasagne do I always have to check the amount of butter and flour for the béchamel.
We used to regularly get something for lunch from an Italian restaurant at work. At some point, I ordered the “tortellini gritti” and loved it. My colleagues found it quite amusing that I often ordered the “Gritti”, but they thought it was delicious when they tried it. 😛 At the restaurant, “Gritti” were tortellini in a tomato sauce, peas, ham and mushrooms, topped with cheese. I do it myself from time to time. Cooking without a recipe and always trying something new to improve the dish is fun. 😄

I haven't seen any young people delivering newspapers for a long time. Advertising flyers made up the majority back then. Many years ago, this was reorganized in our area and delivered by the mailmen.

That's cool that you were still developing photos in a darkroom. 😃
Nowadays, you just pull out your smartphone and take a quick photo. But I still like to travel on vacation with my full-frame camera or compact camera. It's less practical, but more fun and often delivers better quality. 😁 Couldn't have filmed that with a smartphone back then.😄

Is it me or is pizza really a thing between Android enthousiasts? Almost all of the answers on that question is pizza! 😂

I think the thing with it is most likely Pizza is a quite "flexible" thing regarding taste,
And in Germany also a song writer wrote a song about Pizza rescuing the world 😄

I think if there would be one food capable of making world peace happening, it would be pizza.

I love this discussion. I'm definitely in the pizza fan zone too - I'm also thinking we may need to have a dedicated pizza / food thread in the community off-topic board...and dare I even bring up the olde question of whether pineapple should be allowed on pizza?!? 😂 Anyone up for that?

So nice to see all the photos too and amazing side projects / interests that many of you have mentioned - keen to hear more on these too - thank you for sharing. 🤩

This discussion also takes me back to my early computer games, my brother had an old Nintendo SNES (& 64) which we played years after he got it - did anyone play one of these? I remember the games would always get dust inside them (I could have probably protected them a bit better) and so you'd always have to blow to clear them out before putting them in to play them - maybe this was just me (and weird the things you remember sometimes) - but that console lived on for ages, got some good fun out of that! hehe

I'm in for a pizza topic!

And no, pineapple should not be allowed. It just does not belong on a pizza. But pineapple and I don't have a very good relationship
