Introducing Community Post Translations Powered by Gemini

Hi everyone,

One thing we've always wanted for this community is for it to feel genuinely open to everyone, regardless of where you're based or what language you work in day to day. Our communities (Android Enterprise, ChromeOS + Cameyo and Chrome Enterprise) are a global space, and the conversations happening here shouldn't be gated by language.

So we're really pleased to share that we're rolling out Community post translations (powered by Gemini) across our Customer Communities as a first step toward making that a reality. Currently we support translations in English, Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, Portuguese (BR), Spanish, and Italian. If you’d like additional languages added please let us know!

The feature allows you to translate a post (or the whole thread) into one of the languages mentioned above. Simply click the “AI Translate All” on the original post  or “AI Translate” on an individual reply and choose the language you’d like and let Gemini do the rest. We've also done our homework on the technical side, adding Enterprise-specific vocabulary to an exempt list so terms like zero-touch, AMAPI, and others don't get mangled in translation. 

Please bear in mind this feature is only available for registered users.

Plus, as you will see it is an optional function, so if you’d prefer not to use it, this is completely up to you! 

These translations are powered by Gemini, so do bear in mind this is beta and may not always be perfect. That said, if something feels particularly off, feel free to DM ​@Lizzie ​@Rafa  or myself.

  • Have you spotted any translation errors, particularly around technical terms?
  • If you post in a language other than English, how's the experience feeling so far?
  • Are there any languages or use cases you think we should be paying closer attention to?

      Looks nice, how about defining a mother language in the profile, so if you click the translation bar it by default selects the mother language (but keeps the choice).
      That could save some time and make it easier to use instead of searching for the motherlanguage everytime from a long list.

        Love to see this suggestion ​@Moombas, this is certainly something we have thought about in regarding translating the whole community potentially in future, but i’d never considered creating something like this for thread level translations, this is a cool suggestions. Thanks for this. 

        Even if you had the ability to save, once you’ve selected it on one thread, so that it applies across all, could be an option too, perhaps? 😀

        Yeah something like that also fine or having the defined motherlanguage always on the top of the list. Just don’t “force” a tied motherlanguage from profile as the language used always as sometimes i want to translate to english instead of german because of sharing or so. I like to have the ability to switch it but like to have an easy solution ;)

        Super initiative, ça va vraiment aider à rendre la communauté plus accessible !

        Content de voir que le vocabulaire technique (WebView, l’ensemble des acronymes,...) a été pris en compte pour éviter les traductions bizarres, le contexte fait souvent dérailler nos outils. Comme ​@agonzaleze, nous avions beaucoup appréciés le sous-titrage Français et Anglais pendant les présentations à Londres !

        Cependant… apprendre une langue est toujours très utile, surtout quand on essaie de comprendre pourquoi "zero-touch" devient soudainement un charabia incompréhensible avec le traducteur ! 😝
