Share your tips for staying cool during a heatwave (and still get some work done!)

Hey everyone,

As you may know, there is a heatwave happening in Europe at the moment. I think the US is also experiencing some very hot weather.

In London, we will have a peak of 32° Celsius, which is about 90° Fahrenheit. 🥵

I live in a small studio apartment located right under the roof and it is often as hot inside as it is outside. No fan seems to be helping so, full disclosure, I have spent the weekend lying very still and reading!

But, today is Monday and I’ve found an air-conditioned haven to work from, which rebooted my overheated brain and got me thinking:

  1. Are you doing alright in this heat (your wellbeing matters!)?
  2. Have you tackled working in a heatwave?
  3. How do you stay cool?
  4. Do you have any tips to share with the community?

Let me/us know about your workday and what ways you have found to cope with the heat.

I find that a nice little comforting treat is an iced coffee.

If you’re looking for me, I’ll be over here, dreaming of cool, rainy days 🌧️

Chat soon,

Emilie

No offense, but can we keep the conversation on topic?

This is in on topic in the off-topic community group.

But since I'm living in a cooler country I really don't have so many advices but to drink a lot cold drinks, water, iced tea and eat water melon and juice based ice cream.

Maybe try to work different hours, morning and evening and during the day go to a cold shopping center/library and just hang out.

Thanks for the tips Rakib 🫶

I'm hiding away in an air-conditioned place today but, last night, it was over 30° Celsius in my place and I think I slept but...not much 🥴

Isn't there a thing that you should drink hot drinks when it's hot, though?!

      None taken mattdermody

But, indeed, this is the off-topic part of the community where we discuss things that are not necessarily related to Android Enterprise 🤓

So, come, let go and whine with us about the heat (unless you're not experiencing a heat wave and, in that case, I am very jealous!)...

Working in airco cooled rooms is tip number one. But the alternative is working in the woods, so much cooler there.

We had booked a weekend away and I worked from that location last monday. It was a comfortable 27 degrees, with a little bit of wind. found the perfect spot in the shades, wasn't a bad work place.

But very happy to have airco in our house.

I think we'll have to adapt and have air con in our houses in the near future because heatwaves are not going anywhere...

Or we could all move out to live in the forest!

Enjoy the air con at home - I'm not jealous at all 😝

I used to live in the woods, I miss that so much haha

We do need to replace the glass in our windows, its letting to much heat (and cold) come inside the house.

Best tip: Just stay in the not heating up home office 😁

Yeah i know, I may have something unique here but was yesterday in home office and with closed blinds already the entire night, awning turned out, so the southern wall is in the shadow to not heat up and even we have a bungalow (so, always somehow "just under the roof" if i ignore the attic), it was quite chilling there even without cool drinks or so.

Also my shadow called "Kalea" (dog) was there entire day 😅

But going outside was then like walking through an invisible wall 😰

Walking the dog isn't that much fun these days 😅 (Not for the owner and not for the dog)

I live in an attic studio flat and it was as hot outside as it was inside 🥵 but I escaped to work in an air conditioned office and that was pure bliss (until I had to go home and slowly roast overnight!).

Aww, poor puppies in the heat 🥲

Jax has been on very limited walks but, whenever he's being walked in the garden, he likes to lie down in the sun...go figure 🙃

If it gets too hot, a wet towel on the neck can be very nice. Running a fan against your legs is also quite refreshing. Both generate evaporative cooling and help a little in hot temperatures.

I got a standing fan last week, as an impulse buy, I was starting to wake up in the night due to the heat. I never thought I'd be such a fan of fans, but it's fan-tastic! Sorry couldn't resist.

When I work from home, I'm lucky that for most of the day the table (in my living room) that I work off is quite shaded so it isn't until the middle of the afternoon/early evening when it starts to really heat up. I've started to close the curtains in the bedroom to try and prevent the heat during the day a bit more too - not sure if it actually makes that much of a difference though.

I've also started putting a jug of water in the fridge, to make sure I always have lovely cold water.

Other than this, I am out of tips - but as it's Britain, I imagine the weather will change pretty rapidly soon, but I wish everyone well as I know it's very hot across many places at the moment.

...if all else fails, an ice-cream will do the trick 🍦😀

        Always up for ice-cream!

Do you have a favourite? Or any weird flavour combination you enjoy?

        I personally love a hazelnut gelato 🙂
