Hello everyone,

My name is Lizzie and I am the Community Manager here in the Android Enterprise Customer Community. You are probably all use to having the roundtable introductions in meetings and sharing a fun fact about yourself. If you are like me, you then spend the next 30 seconds trawling through your brain to find an interesting fact to share with a group of people...the good news is you are not on the spot here!  😀

This aside, it's really nice in a community to get know others and so it would be fantastic to hear from you!

I'll kick us off:

  • I've been working in community for over 10 year across a few different industries.
  • I'm a big fan of music and I play a couple of instruments: so my 'office' playlist is quite an array of tunes
  • I live on an island (it's quite a big one): so when I go to the Google office, I actually have to take a ferry, which sounds quite exotic!

Please share a few facts about yourself, (here are a couple of ideas):

  • What type of industry do you work in?
  • Which country you are based in?
  • Hobbies or interests?
  • Favourite / couldn't live with out piece of tech?

Looking forward to speaking with you.

Thanks,

Lizzie

    Hello everyone,

I'm Daren, and I have been working with Mobility and End User Compute for well over 32 years.  I started back before mobile was even real (WinCE, Blackberry, Nokia phones, pagers, etc) and device management was just a collection of carrier tools.  Today I work on an amazing Mobility Engineering team and we leverage Omnissa Workspace One UEM to manage a large fleet of retail rugged mobile devices and just finished a migration to Android 13.  (If you are interested in remotely re-enrolling WS1 Zebra gms devices with automation DM me).

I work for a very large grocery retailer in the US on a team that is outstanding and energetic.  We manage over 145k mobile devices with WS1 UEM and leverage a high degree of automation for device enrollment, application/profile delivery, and remote reprovisioning.

Personally, I am really driven by curiosity and have gained enough professional experience and freedom to drive my own path to learning and finding technology solutions that truly make an impact.  I am an avid reader and enjoy traveling and programming in almost any language.

Tech I could not live without, would have to be all my apple devices (Macbook, Apple watch, iPhone, iPad, and VisionPro).  The apple ecosystem is so incredible these days and the integration between devices is top notch.

    Hi Daren, and welcome 🤩

Thank you for sharing details of your career and expertise; we often have device enrollment-related questions so, looking forward to your help on those.

What's the latest book you've read? I've just finished a book about the gut (super interesting, by the way!) and now, I'm reading the 3rd Bridget Jones for a lighter read 🤓

You can also give us travel recommendations; these are always well-received!

Highly recommend Stephen King, Dark Tower Series but it takes a serious investment of time with 8 books in the series.  Once I started, I couldn't put them down.  I am currently re-reading the Shannara series from Terry Brooks from way back in the day.  If you like Fantasy fiction you will like Terry Brooks.

If you are into Android (I suspect everyone is in this community!) I am finishing up "Inside the Android OS" by Blake Meike and Larry Schiefer.  It covers a lot of the Android OS basics and an in depth section on building and operating Android system services.

For years I have wanted to build a mobile app on Android or iOS so if anyone has any good books, articles or advice on making a go in the Playstore or the App Store, please share.

I love watching Horror, Action and Sci-Fi, sometimes Drama. Yes, I watched Final Destination too. I felt it was better made movie compare to the previous movies in the franchise.

Yes, it was a great step up from Final Destination 5 - that one was a bit meh 🤷‍♀️

What other horror movie can you recommend?

    Hello everyone,

I'm Keni Patel, a Mobility Engineer with over 8 years of experience in Information Technology, specializing in networking, authentication, security, cloud infrastructure, and of course, mobility. I’ve been focused on Mobility Engineering for more than 5 years now, and I currently work with an outstanding team supporting one of the largest grocery retailers in the U.S.

We manage a massive fleet of over 145,000 rugged mobile devices using Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM. Recently, we completed a full remote migration to Android 13 across our entire device fleet without any user intervention or physical touch. I’ve also been deeply involved in designing, architecting, and implementing single sign-on (SSO) solutions within our mobile Identity and Access Management systems for all internal Android-based apps, handling nearly half a million logins per day.

What drives me professionally is curiosity and the challenge of solving meaningful problems. I love diving into new technologies and finding better, more efficient ways to work. It’s what keeps this field exciting.

Outside of work, I'm a huge cricket fan and love spending time outdoors exploring nature. Travel is one of my passions, and I enjoy reading about emerging tech trends. When it comes to gadgets, I use both Apple and Pixel devices. I rely on Apple products like my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone for day-to-day work. I also regularly use my Pixel for photography. The camera and the latest AI features are hard to beat.

Looking forward to learning and sharing more with the amazing Android community here!

    Welcome to the community @keni

Sorry about the delayed message - I had some time off 🎊

I'd be interested to hear more about your experience with the full migration to Android 13; it sounds like it was very smooth.

Your expertise with problem-solving will be super useful in the community. When we are stuck in a pickle, it's good to have experienced people to help us solve the issue.

Speaking of pickle, what is your favourite dish?

Also, if you can explain the rules of cricket to me as if I was 5 years old, that would be amazing 😅

No worries at all — hope you had a great break! 🎉

Thanks for the kind words — it’s always nice to be part of a community where everyone’s open to sharing and helping each other out when things get tricky.

    Now, onto the fun stuff…
Favourite dish with pickles? I’d go with something from Gujarati cuisine — always full of flavour and pairs really well with a good tangy pickle on the side!

And as for cricket... here’s my attempt to explain it like you’re 5:

It’s like a game of tag mixed with baseball. One person throws the ball, one person hits it, and then they run back and forth to score points. If someone catches the ball or hits the wooden sticks behind the batter, they’re out. Both teams take turns, and the one with the most points (runs) wins!

    Hope that helps! 😄

Hi @ethunhunt994 and welcome to our little corner of the internet 👋

I have to ask this one: are you using Gemini to work on your AI creative projects? If so, what are your thoughts and what is your favourite tool/functionality?

We're big foodies over here - this is evidenced by @Alex_Muc's excellent guide to homemade sushis and we're waiting for @Michel's guide on homemade pizza 😉 - so, what is your favourite food or dish?

    Hi Everybody,

It's probably time to introduce myself as I finally started replying to some messages (thanks Lizzie for the gentle nudge :-D).
I've been active in the Android "Enterprise" ecosystem for a very long time (here's me talking about Android Industrial mobility in 2015) and in "industrial mobility" for even longer.
I developed applications for many mobile OSes over the years (Dr.DOS, PalmOS, Windows CE, PocketPC, Windows Mobile and WEH) and I'm currently at Google having fun with Android Enterprise as a technical solution consultant.

Hello, worked in tech officially since 2010 but as a hobby back in 2004 and started working with Android Enterprise APIs back in 2016.

I have a few hobby apps in the Play store and currently on a Kubernetes kick, specifically offline or air-gapped install and operation.

Based in the US but work occasionally takes me to different Countries.

    Love outdoor, off-roading, and hiking.

    Hello @rriven and welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself to everyone 😊

Could I ask what kind of hobby apps you have in the Play Store (no need to go into specifics, just what kind of hobbies they're about)?

Whereabouts are you based in the US? East or West coast?

I'm just intrigued to know where you hike - I love going on long walks but I live in London so, I probably can't call them "hikes" due to the lack of greenery and wildlife 😝

    Hello everyone!

So I'm not really new, but I wanted to share the reason I don't get on here much.  I already informed the US team of this.  I am actually going back to school to get my Master's in Education and I'm majoring in Digital Learning.  This degree will help me become a Digital Trainer for either children or adults, in an educational setting, online setting, or a business setting.  I'm still playing my Ukulele, but I had to temporarily step away from it, as I decided that banging my hand on a waterslide and spraining it was an excellent idea!  Waterslide 1, Kristen 0!  I also picked up Yoga again, but I also had to give that up for three months due to injury.  I have since gotten back into both.  In addition, I've had a career change back to Education, this time with middle schoolers, who are, in essence, young adults....the very age group that I'm missing experience in for my new field!

Hello @Kristen - I don't think we've officially "met" yet, I'm Emilie and I've been the "new" community manager since April 😊

It's so exciting to hear you're heading back to school; what prompted the change in career and the return to studying?

I play the Ukulele too! I'm not very good but, I'm sure I could improve if I were to practice more regularly 😅 I don't have a solid excuse like you, though - I hope your head feels better now!

And, needless to say, yay to yoga! Do you practice in a studio setting or in the comfort of your home?

    Hi Emilie!

This is my group getting ready to play for the anniversary concert of a theater we opened 2 years ago.  I am the one in the blue shirt in the lower right corner:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXer7hQcuAw

This is an open rehearsal we did for the public a year ago and is typically how our rehearsals go.  I'm in the Elf costume: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYbJHPs_tqY&t=1620s

This is us the day we opened the Nashua Center For The Arts.  I'm the one with the blue binder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YdyrQ411r4  The guy across the stage from me is a local news anchor who was covering the event.  He's friends with my leader and when we do local events that he's covering for the news, we have a deal where he has to play with us.  For those of you in NH, that's Sean MacDonald from WMUR Channel 9.  Yes, that is him playing and yes he is a member of our group.

He's not the only contact I have for the news: my friend is also his co-anchor.  I've also taken Ballroom Dance classes with him and his co-anchor for another local news show called NH Chronicle.

And for you Sports fans, my cousin works for one of the teams in the National Hockey League (LA Kings) and my friend is a former National Football League (NFL) cheerleader.  I also have a friend who is a Broadway actress (she played G(a)linda in "Wicked") and another friend who is currently performing on the largest cruise ship in the world (Star Of The Seas) in "Back To The Future".  Through cruising, I've also met The Las Vegas Tenors, and quite a few acts from "America's Got Talent".

I am also related to someone famous...Amelia Earhart!  Three generations removed and I'm the only one in the family that looks like her.  She is my second cousin three times removed.  I also have a relative in the Bowling Hall Of Fame....and no, I didn't inherit her coordination at all!  I did, however, inherit Amelia's looks and love for travel and adventure.  I prefer to explore the oceans and am getting ready to take my 41st cruise, which will be on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/@cruisingwithkristen .

I've been thinking about a career change back into education from working with seniors for a long time now.  I'm a degreed Early Childhood Educator here in the States and wanted to work with Kindergarten.  This was during the recession, so jobs weren't exactly plentiful, especially for those of us who just graduated college.

I got a job working in a nursery school, and while I love babies, I wasn't happy that I wasn't doing a lot of academics, so I started substitute teaching in my local school districts.  One actually resulted in a part-time perminant position in an Elementary charter school for the arts.  I wound up taking over the theater and after school programs.  Eventually the school decided to end the program.

At the time, I was obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and got placed in Activities (sometimes called Life Enrichment).  I loved it, as I was now working with adults and doing "Info-tainment" for my residents and staff trainings in Dementia (I'm a Dementia Practitioner).  Sadly, COVID changed many things in the nursing homes and I was getting frusterated with the politics that come with that, so after 20 years, I decided that nursing homes wasn't the right setting for me anymore.

After some soul searching this past year, I decided that I really like working with young adults and seniors.  I learned (coincidentally through networking on YouTube) that education doesn't have to be limited to the classroom, but that if I wanted to become a trainer, I really needed to expand my educational horizions and I came across the Google Trainer Certificate program, as well as a Digital Learning program through Plymouth State University.  I applied to both programs and got accepted to both (for the Google one I became a Level 1 Google Educator), but as I learned more about the Master's program, I learned that yes, it's in Education, but many graduates from that major have jobs in business settings.  Not knowing which setting I want, I decided to apply for the K-12 certificate along with my degree, which will allow me to teach any grade level.  I had taught young children before as well as seniors: what I was missing was the 80 year gap in between, which this degree will help me fill!

An opportunity presented itself in one of my local school districts to be a Classroom Assistant (Paraeducator) in middle school, and they use Google products (including Classroom and Chrome) quite heavily in their curriculum.  So now, I'm seeing both my love for education and my love for technology come together and I actually use my background as a Product Expert to help the students.

As far as Yoga is concerned, I initially picked it up during the recession, when my best friend (who is a bellydancer as a hobby) was teaching me how to do a split for an audition.  I didn't get the part, but kept up with the practice for a few years, and even incorperated it into my programming with seniors.  Through my time with seniors, I met actual trainers and would take their classes alongside the seniors.  I'm still friends with them to this day, but decided to join my local YMCA because of the fact that I switched fields and could no longer join their classes.  I take a beginner class, as I'm not....well, let's just say my middle name isn't "Grace"!  The classes work with my new schedule, and the instructor knows of my injury and helps me modify the stretches.  Coincidentally, since I got back into it, it's helped me with my hand!  We just started a self-care class at work, where the students are taking Yoga classes, so I want to lead by example!

I do have the ability to practice at home, since I have my own gear and can watch videos (my local YMCA has YMCA 360 which has free videos, as does my Fitbit, Weight Watchers, and Planet Fitness apps), but I like the socialization at the YMCA.  I use the videos as a backup in case I can't make it to the studio due to weather.
