Question

We have all our devices on Samsung Knox; I would like to try using Android Zero-Touch enrollment as well. Is that possible?

We got all our new company Samsung phones added into Samsung Knox.

None of the distributors we work with are Android Zero Touch partners; we've asked them to join and they probably won't any time soon.

I read that there's been some effort to unify Samsung Knox and Android Zero Touch, although in many cases it still seems like EMMs have better support for Android Zero Touch whereas Samsung would prefer you use their in-house EMM.

We would like to try using the Android Zero Touch enrollment as well. Unlike Samsung, it seems like I can't even register my own customer account.

So my questions: is there any possible way to get just a Zero Touch customer account set up, with no devices added, when none of the resellers I actually bought a device from are Android partners?

Also, is there some way I could get some of our Knox enrolled devices to use Zero Touch?

We have both Knox and ZT, Samsung for Knox, other brands use ZT and Apple is used with ABM. To be honest, Knox is still better, Google has made a lot of strides to improve, but there are a lot more options in Knox and we also use E-Fota for our shared devices.

But we had to use our reseller for making the ZT account, I think thats the only, maybe some one else can correct me.

I've also been told Knox is better, but still I would at least like to see what the other option is. Plus to get the full benefit of Knox it seems you need to use the full Knox suite. Using it with Intune never worked as well as just using the suite itself.

It seemed like any Android partner could do it (not technically limited to resellers) just that most won't if they don't already have a business relationship with, which is fair. But Samsung itself is an Android partner too, and as a Knox customer they've vetted us already. So is this just a question of finding the right person in Samsung to ask...

I have conversations about this on a regular basis with companies from different sizes. And the consensus is that its good to have both, Knox for Samsung and ZT for the rest. I'll explain:

Knox is build by Samsung and includes, even in the free version, a couple of security checks to see if a device is secure or at least is still with the original firmware. Thats a check that ZT can't perform on devices. Knox also checks the Knox warranty bit to see if a deviee has been messed with. Here is some extra info on that: https://docs.samsungknox.com/admin/fundamentals/whitepaper/samsung-knox-mobile-security/system-security/hw-backed-security/

With Knox Mobile Enrollment, the ZT part of the Knox suite, you can connect to all kinds of MDM and include DPC /JSON code if needed (Intune requires this for example). I haven't found an MDM that does not work well with Knox. And there is no benefit for Knox Manage over other MDM's from Knox Mobile enrollment perspective.

Android Zero touch works well but it does not perform the security checks, and thats what I see as a big plus / advantage of the Samsung tooling. So our advice, and most customers follow that, is to use both. In most countries, a distributor is able to upload to Knox or ZT if you reseller isn't a Samsung or Android Partner. (Distri is where your reseller buys there stuff)

I can confirm from our side, we do the same: Knox (free) for Samsung, ZTP for the rest.

And in general the reason for that is way more simple as Michel wrote (from our side): The view and information displayed there is way better than in ZTP (sorry Google).

But in general i hope Google is aiming to a similar direction to become more equal sometime in future.

As far as I´m aware you need a partner who can add devices in to the Zero Touch portal.
