Also, if you have any further questions related to the webinar, please feel free to drop them in the comments below.

🛠️ Product Overview & Availability

What is Cameyo by Google?

Cameyo is a virtual application delivery platform that allows you to run Windows applications securely within a web browser. It’s designed to bridge the gap for "last-mile" legacy applications while maintaining a web-first strategy.

What are the core benefits?

  • Simple: Easy to deploy and manage.
  • Secure: Built on Zero-Trust principles; no VPN required.
  • Cost-Effective: Reduces infrastructure overhead and hardware requirements.
  • Flexible: Compatible with any browser and supports various SSO and hosting options.

Is it available now?
Yes! Cameyo by Google is Generally Available (GA). It is currently a self-hosted solution (managed by the customer or partner). While it can run on various cloud providers, we highly recommend Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for the most streamlined management experience.

💻 Technical & Administration Q&A

Infrastructure & Deployment

  • How does scaling work (Elastic Clusters)?
Cameyo uses "Elastic Clusters" (on GCP and Azure) to automatically scale your Windows server capacity up or down based on user demand. This ensures performance during peak hours and saves costs by shutting down unused servers during quiet periods.

  • How are updates and patching handled?
If you host on GCP, OS updates are handled naturally. For application updates, you simply update your template server, verify the changes, and redeploy the cluster.

  • Can we manage this programmatically?
Yes. Cameyo offers a robust API for administrators who want to automate publishing, unpublishing, or server management.

User Experience & Compatibility

  • Does it support complex apps and add-ins?
  • Absolutely. For example, you can run Excel with add-ins (like SigmaXL) or applications that require a backend connection to a database (like SAP).

  • How is file management handled?
  • Users can save files directly to Google Drive (recommended for the best SSO experience), OneDrive, or local device storage. Admins have full control over which save options are enabled.

  • Does it support peripherals like printers or USB tokens?
    • Printing/Audio: Works seamlessly via virtual drivers that pass tasks to the local browser.
    • USB: Basic devices (mice, keyboards, scanners) are supported via WebUSB.
    • Note: Support for encrypted USB redirection (like smart cards for authentication) is currently on the product roadmap.

🔒 Security & Policy

  • What about the integration with Chrome Enterprise Premium (CEP) ?
Cameyo is fully compatible with CEP. You can leverage Context-Aware Access (CAA) to ensure applications are only accessible based on specific criteria, such as device security posture or geographic location. More on how Cameyo and CEP work together here.

💰 Licensing & Support

  • How does software licensing work?
You are responsible for providing the licenses for the Windows apps you virtualize (e.g., Microsoft or Adobe). If you host on GCP, you have the option to purchase your Microsoft licenses directly through Google Cloud.
