Any plan to certify MacBookAir8,1 or 8,2 for Chromeos Flex?

Hi,

is there any plan to develop full Chrome OS Flex support for T2 Intel macbook airs from 2018-2019?

I tried installed it on the that machine, but it has common Linux struggle with T2 security chip: keyboard, touchpad, wifi and bluetooth not worked.

So, I wondering, if there will be some future support?

I know that the non-working parts, i mentioned, is possible to have fully working with t2linux project.

I am running Fedora 42 with t2linux patches without issues.

Thanks

Alv.

Hi @Alvyn thanks for your question.

As you know the Macbook Air 8,1 or 8,2 is not on the certified device list however this is an ever evolving list.

Can I ask whether this ask relates to a number of Macbooks within an organisation or singular use case for personal use? The reason I ask is that we can put requests in for certain makes/models of devices to be prioritized in the certification process, however we need to build a sufficient business case. To do that we'd need to illustrate the number of users it would impact etc.

If you could let us know those details that would help greatly. Thanks!

Hi @Lynda thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, its only my personal request - device.

I would like to keep the Macbook running after was became obsolete to Apple, and its without the SW security updates.

Thank you very much,

I will periodically check, if this will be certified in the future.

On the other hand, I understand, that from developers point of view, it will need quite a lot resources to implement support for that T2 proprietary chip. Even the Linux support is not yet in "mainstream" Linux kernel, but just created as community project by T2linux.

Anyway, thank you and have a nice day.
