Introducing Community Post Translations Powered by Gemini

Hi everyone,

One thing we've always wanted for this community is for it to feel genuinely open to everyone, regardless of where you're based or what language you work in day to day. Our communities (Android Enterprise, ChromeOS + Cameyo and Chrome Enterprise) are a global space, and the conversations happening here shouldn't be gated by language.

So we're really pleased to share that we're rolling out Community post translations (powered by Gemini) across our Customer Communities as a first step toward making that a reality. Currently we support translations in English, Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, Portuguese (BR), Spanish, and Italian. If you’d like additional languages added please let us know!

The feature allows you to translate a post (or the whole thread) into one of the languages mentioned above. Simply click the “AI Translate All” on the original post  or “AI Translate” on an individual reply and choose the language you’d like and let Gemini do the rest. We've also done our homework on the technical side, adding Enterprise-specific vocabulary to an exempt list so terms like zero-touch, AMAPI, and others don't get mangled in translation.

Please bear in mind this feature is only available for registered users.

Translation in action

Plus, as you will see it is an optional function, so if you’d prefer not to use it, this is completely up to you!

These translations are powered by Gemini, so do bear in mind this is beta and may not always be perfect. That said, if something feels particularly off, feel free to DM @Lizzie @Rafa  or myself.

A few things we'd love to hear from you on:

  • Have you spotted any translation errors, particularly around technical terms?
  • If you post in a language other than English, how's the experience feeling so far?
  • Are there any languages or use cases you think we should be paying closer attention to?

Cheers,
Kirk

Esse é o tipo de funcionalidade que fortalece ainda mais o senso de comunidade global inclusiva que queremos pro nosso espaço. Sensacional!

I’m so interested to hear how everyone find this new feature here in the community, we’ve received quite a few requests over the years about adding the ability to read and participate in the community in other languages, so hopefully this is a step in right direction.

Thanks @Emiliano and @Rafa for your replies and showing how it can work! 😍

Just cc’d in a couple of other members who I know can speak amazing English (and have been demonstrating this for some time in the community), but can also speak some of the translation languages mentioned - perhaps you’d like to try it out with a reply below? 😄 @Kris, @Moombas, @Michel, @Yann_ROLAND, @Flo, @Aurelien12345, @SF4, @Alex_Muc, @weberda, @jeremy, @MelkonTorosyan, @Stinus, @w4lter, @NP-CL, @agonzaleze, @turquet, @Marcel_K_XDMT,

Thanks so much (and I hope you are all having a good week).

    Welcome to the Community everyone!

Bedankt voor de tag @Lizzie , volgens mij werkt het allemaal naar behoren. Goed te zien dat Nederlands ook is meegenomen in dit geheel!

    Hi @Lizzie

for me it is not helpful at all…. I had Gemini translate your message into French, but I don't understand French. 😪

    Ok, jokes asside... 😆

I think it is a very cool feature, indeed!

For me, I assume, it will not actively change the way I interact within the community. I would love to see a feature where I can write a message in my native language and have it translated to English on-the-fly while sending it. For quick and short messages this would maybe be even more helpful 😊

    Bye 👋

    Hi @Kirk

if you select Translate All (English) or on the single post Translate English your formatting will completely removed. Plus, the screenshot/image is being removed. Overall it’s getting harder to read the text and to have the context (with the image especially) you have to switch back to the original post.
