Can't enroll the Samsung to Intune after removing from Google MDM

Hi experts,

I'm pretty new to managing Android devices using MDM solution and I went to the issue that need advises.

I have a Samsung Android for testing & evaluating the MDM solutions. I was testing on Intune & Google MDM. Here are step by step I have done to lead to this issue.

  • I enrolled it to Intune by using the QR code successfully and finished the first test, then I wiped it fully
  • I added it to corporate-owned device under Google MDM by using csv with serial number
  • Enrolled it to Google MDM and finished the test with MDM.
  • Then, I removed this device from corporate device, deleted it from devices tab from Google MDM and fully wiped (factory reset) this device
  • I scanned the QR code again (the same one I scanned in step 1) but failed
  • After few screens, like connect wifi, this device belongs to org, etc... it ended up with 'Something went wrong, please contact to your IT administartor.

I tried to scan it multiple times without luck; other device still be able to scan the QR code for enrollment. There is no logs can be found in the Microsoft.

Is there anything that I was missing?

Thank you !!!

    Hi Michel,

No worries, I'm able to find the root cause. The Google Play account was disconnected without telling the team so that why we can't enroll. After reconnected it, now we can.

    Hi There, welcome!

What do you mean with Google MDM? Could it be that you mean Google zero touch? If so, you might mix some terms:

MDM is for your management, which app you get, which rights you have on the device etc. A zero touch portal (Google zero touch, Knox Mobile Enrollment, Apple business manager, Autopilot) is a tool that connects the device to an MDM solution without the need for scanning QR codes or perform any manual actions on the device. Just turn it on, connect to the internet, and it will connect to the zero touch platform.

In that zero touch platform, you assign a profile to the device which contains information regarding the MDM solution it should connect to.

Intune has the abilitiy to integrate Google zero touch and create that profile for you, but it does not always work perfectly. My first guess would be that you have (accidentely) added your device to that portal. If thats the case, you could either remove it from that portal and upload it to Knox or assisgn a new profile for a new MDM solution, or remove it and only use the QR code option.

When you login to intune, go to devices, Android, Enrollment and look for something called bulk enrollment it should be at the top. It will open the google zero touch portal where you can perform the action you want. You could also go to: https://enterprise.google.com/android/zero-touch/ and login using the Google credentials you used to set this up.

And I would highly recommend following the Android Enterprise courses here: https://info.androidenterprise.training/

      Hi Michel,

Thanks for the reply. I do really mean the MDM. In Google, they called 'Advance management'

        ah okay, thanks!

I'm not that familiair with Google's MDM since it isn't really a good showcase for Android device management strangely.

Could it be that there are some references to the device in one of your MDM solutions? Intune could show errors when a device is still listed as enrolled (when you reset via the phones settings and not via Intune for example).
