Google Play account: Account creation failed

Hi,

I would like to ask you if there´s any Google check or limitation if the device has been enrolled to MobiControl with Google Play Account but after the enrollment device is connected in company closed network (without access to google services).

Randomly on these devices after several months is displayed error message: Google Play Account: Account creation failed. Please click to try again. So of course on closed network it´s not possible to create it and it seems it´s fixed on hotspot but it takes a long time to create an account.

Now I´m not sure if this notification will be displayed on these devices in closed network after several days or months. Right step is to enroll the device to MDM as AOSP but I would like to know if somebody enroll the device with google services but after that the device is moved to closed network. Is there any limitation after xx days / months? Thank you

Hello,

You're right the device needs to contact Google servers when using Android Enterprise, and the device will also need to have access to these servers to validate the account regularly. I'm not sure that there is an official documentation saying that the device will try to connect each xx days or month, but network connectivity to Google servers is mandatory.

You can find the list of endpoint that have to be whitelisted here: https://support.google.com/work/android/answer/10513641?hl=en

Hi @Emilie_B thank you for your answer. My question is: does exist any official documentation what will happen on the devices which were enrolled as work managed with google services but these devices are connected in closed network for many days \ months? Does exist any checks by Google and after xx months these device had to connect to Google services? If yes how often is it checked and what can be displayed on these devices. Is there any expiration of token or something similar?

I can't answer your question (all our MGP devices get relevant access) but let me ask one to you @vlastimil

First something in beforehand:
Did the devices get the account created/assigned correctly before you see the issue during enrollment?
If yes, you should see it in the console:

If no: Ensure it gets it assigned during enrollment already (using a free Wifi or so just for enrollment providing access to Google services)

Then a general thing:

Why assigning a MGP (Managed Google Play) Account and then not using it?

I would recommend to enable the relevant network connections (https://support.google.com/work/android/answer/10513641?hl=en) or to provide the apps via Enterprise App Policy or Profiles (Soti provides those possibilities) instead. Then there's no need for a MGP account to be (re-) created.

If you use apps, which you only get via MGP, i would try to reach out to the developers to get the apps for sideloading or enable relevant network connections.
