Zero Touch phones randomly wipe themselves
Please tell me the difference between COWP and COPE.
I can tell already in advance, it's the same.
You have these possibilities:
- BYOD - Bring your own device
- Privately owned device where you only provide a work profile to containting apps and so on but no real power about device settings as so on as the device is owned by the employee. No ZT Enrollment possible (including Knox).
- COPE - Company owned privately enabled
- Device is owned by company and provided to the employee to be used for private and work. This device has a private "secluded" area but you have more power over it regarding settings and even able to wipe it if needed (as an example).
- fully managed
- Device owned and completely managed by the company, no private or work profile available. No private space, so only to be used in company use cases including kiosk mode, shared device mode and so on.
Yes, for some of these other names are flowing around in the internet here and there but these are the "correct" ones.
So, i hope you understand now, you are using COPE and should look into everything related to this (no idea where COWP comes from).
To make it even more difficult with all the terms, COPE has been deprecated and replaced by work profile for mixed-use company-owned devices (why make an easy name if you can use this long one😅)
You can find the correct terminology here
https://developers.google.com/android/work/terminology#corporate-owned_personally_enabled_cope and here https://developers.google.com/android/work/overview#full-management-for-work-only-company-owned-devices
But COPE is still the most used name, I still use it in customer conversations as well. But work profile as another term you might here more often. So either look for COPE or work profile if looking for answers. COWP has never been used by Android, but Intune uses Company owned, work profile so I assume thats where COWP comes from. I do see it in Intune forums every now and than, but its not an official Android name.

Funny, haven't seen that, yet.
So, now it's WPMUCO 🤣 - i guess i stay with COPE as it says it all way better than that (and even the COWP from Andrius is then way better).
Lizzie we should have a talk about irritiating nonsense renaming with your internal people at Google who are responsible for this weird changes...
