New to the community? Introduce yourself here...
Hello everyone,
My name is Lizzie and I am the Community Manager here in the Android Enterprise Customer Community. You are probably all use to having the roundtable introductions in meetings and sharing a fun fact about yourself. If you are like me, you then spend the next 30 seconds trawling through your brain to find an interesting fact to share with a group of people...the good news is you are not on the spot here! 😀
This aside, it's really nice in a community to get know others and so it would be fantastic to hear from you!
I'll kick us off:
- I've been working in community for over 10 year across a few different industries.
- I'm a big fan of music and I play a couple of instruments: so my 'office' playlist is quite an array of tunes
- I live on an island (it's quite a big one): so when I go to the Google office, I actually have to take a ferry, which sounds quite exotic!
Please share a few facts about yourself, (here are a couple of ideas):
- What type of industry do you work in?
- Which country you are based in?
- Hobbies or interests?
- Favourite / couldn't live with out piece of tech?
Looking forward to speaking with you.
Thanks,
Lizzie

Hello everyone,
I'm Daren, and I have been working with Mobility and End User Compute for well over 32 years. I started back before mobile was even real (WinCE, Blackberry, Nokia phones, pagers, etc) and device management was just a collection of carrier tools. Today I work on an amazing Mobility Engineering team and we leverage Omnissa Workspace One UEM to manage a large fleet of retail rugged mobile devices and just finished a migration to Android 13. (If you are interested in remotely re-enrolling WS1 Zebra gms devices with automation DM me).
I work for a very large grocery retailer in the US on a team that is outstanding and energetic. We manage over 145k mobile devices with WS1 UEM and leverage a high degree of automation for device enrollment, application/profile delivery, and remote reprovisioning.
Personally, I am really driven by curiosity and have gained enough professional experience and freedom to drive my own path to learning and finding technology solutions that truly make an impact. I am an avid reader and enjoy traveling and programming in almost any language.
Tech I could not live without, would have to be all my apple devices (Macbook, Apple watch, iPhone, iPad, and VisionPro). The apple ecosystem is so incredible these days and the integration between devices is top notch.- Emilie_BGoogle Community Manager7 months ago
Hi Daren, and welcome 🤩
Thank you for sharing details of your career and expertise; we often have device enrollment-related questions so, looking forward to your help on those.
What's the latest book you've read? I've just finished a book about the gut (super interesting, by the way!) and now, I'm reading the 3rd Bridget Jones for a lighter read 🤓
You can also give us travel recommendations; these are always well-received!

Highly recommend Stephen King, Dark Tower Series but it takes a serious investment of time with 8 books in the series. Once I started, I couldn't put them down. I am currently re-reading the Shannara series from Terry Brooks from way back in the day. If you like Fantasy fiction you will like Terry Brooks.
If you are into Android (I suspect everyone is in this community!) I am finishing up "Inside the Android OS" by Blake Meike and Larry Schiefer. It covers a lot of the Android OS basics and an in depth section on building and operating Android system services.
For years I have wanted to build a mobile app on Android or iOS so if anyone has any good books, articles or advice on making a go in the Playstore or the App Store, please share.

G'day Darren and welcome,
Keen to understand how understand how you went about migrating your fleet of mobile rugged devices to Android 13 and what method you used (Zebra's or Omnissa's). And also interested in how you remotely re-enrolled WS1 Zebra gms devices with automation (I'm guessing this is related to the migration). DM is on it's way!
Cheers

This should put you on the right track.
A couple of key points to understand here:
- An Enterprise Reset is unavoidable when upgrading a Zebra Helios /SD660 family device from A11 to A13 or A14, you can however take measures to make things like the WiFi network settings and custom DPC MDM agent (e.g. SOTI, WS1) persist through the upgrade so that the devices automatically reconnect to the MDM.
- The easiest process I have found so far is using SOTI MobiControl. WS1 is second to that in terms of complexity. I wouldn't even consider it with something less capable like Intune.
- There was a specific range of A13 Zebra BSP builds that broke the persistence. This was fixed in 13-38 and 14-26. You can upgrade directly from A11 to either version now.
- The A13 upgrade issues on Zebra devices only apply to the Helios / SD660 family. The newer generation families like Athena and Nemesis do not have these issues and can be upgraded directly to A13 since they already have File Based Encryption out of the box.

I love watching Horror, Action and Sci-Fi, sometimes Drama. Yes, I watched Final Destination too. I felt it was better made movie compare to the previous movies in the franchise.
- Emilie_BGoogle Community Manager7 months ago
Yes, it was a great step up from Final Destination 5 - that one was a bit meh 🤷♀️
What other horror movie can you recommend?

Hello everyone,
I'm Keni Patel, a Mobility Engineer with over 8 years of experience in Information Technology, specializing in networking, authentication, security, cloud infrastructure, and of course, mobility. I’ve been focused on Mobility Engineering for more than 5 years now, and I currently work with an outstanding team supporting one of the largest grocery retailers in the U.S.
We manage a massive fleet of over 145,000 rugged mobile devices using Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM. Recently, we completed a full remote migration to Android 13 across our entire device fleet without any user intervention or physical touch. I’ve also been deeply involved in designing, architecting, and implementing single sign-on (SSO) solutions within our mobile Identity and Access Management systems for all internal Android-based apps, handling nearly half a million logins per day.
What drives me professionally is curiosity and the challenge of solving meaningful problems. I love diving into new technologies and finding better, more efficient ways to work. It’s what keeps this field exciting.
Outside of work, I'm a huge cricket fan and love spending time outdoors exploring nature. Travel is one of my passions, and I enjoy reading about emerging tech trends. When it comes to gadgets, I use both Apple and Pixel devices. I rely on Apple products like my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone for day-to-day work. I also regularly use my Pixel for photography. The camera and the latest AI features are hard to beat.
Looking forward to learning and sharing more with the amazing Android community here!

Welcome to the community keni !
Sorry about the delayed message - I had some time off 🎊
I'd be interested to hear more about your experience with the full migration to Android 13; it sounds like it was very smooth.
Your expertise with problem-solving will be super useful in the community. When we are stuck in a pickle, it's good to have experienced people to help us solve the issue.
Speaking of pickle, what is your favourite dish?
Also, if you can explain the rules of cricket to me as if I was 5 years old, that would be amazing 😅
- keniLevel 1.6: Donut7 months ago
No worries at all — hope you had a great break! 🎉
Thanks for the kind words — it’s always nice to be part of a community where everyone’s open to sharing and helping each other out when things get tricky.
Now, onto the fun stuff…
Favourite dish with pickles? I’d go with something from Gujarati cuisine — always full of flavour and pairs really well with a good tangy pickle on the side! And as for cricket... here’s my attempt to explain it like you’re 5:
It’s like a game of tag mixed with baseball. One person throws the ball, one person hits it, and then they run back and forth to score points. If someone catches the ball or hits the wooden sticks behind the batter, they’re out. Both teams take turns, and the one with the most points (runs) wins!
Hope that helps! 😄

Welcome!
I'm keen to understand more around your full remote migration to Android 13 across our entire device fleet without any user intervention or physical touch. As well as implementing single sign-on (SSO) solutions. I'll send a direct message.
Also, when it comes to cricket, do you prefer T20, ODI or Test matches?Or all of the above?
CheersBen

Hi thanks for letting me join your community
I work for a large contract catering business in the UK which i part of a wider international group.
I've worked in their IT team for over 10 yrs in various roles, however currently in an App support role.
Recently our company has been investigating use cases for the Microsoft Hololens AR products which i've had some involvement.
Currently involved with a migration project from Airwatch to Intune for mobile devices, am currently seeking to understand the gotcha's and in particular way to allow captive portals when using a restrictive Kiosk mode with Intune.
I also like to play the electric organ and get out cycling when I can.
- Emilie_BGoogle Community Manager6 months ago
Welcome, welcome shaunhodgkinson!
It's very cool to read you've been involved with the Microsoft Hololens AR projects - any details you can share with us? (no worries if not!)
I'm sure our members will be able to help with all your questions; they're a super knowledgeable bunch 😉
The electric organ? How did you get into that instrument? Lizzie plays several instruments and I'm sure she'll be curious to know more about it!

Hi Shaun,
welcome here and wish you great success.
I already want to make you aware that you will get warned here a lot regarding using Intune for mobile devices. There are several reasons for that, you should be able find a lot here in the community already when you search for it.
I would highly recommend as you are on a starting point yet and if you are able to, to look for an alternative providing you a way better solution and experience than Intune does.
Just as a side note: Our company is a "MS house" but we don't use Intune for managing mobiles (and i prey that no one tries to force us to do so in future). Support and way more time to implement things (if even available), can cost way more than the already available ("without costs") Intune licenses in a company already using MS.

Hi ethunhunt994 and welcome to our little corner of the internet 👋
I have to ask this one: are you using Gemini to work on your AI creative projects? If so, what are your thoughts and what is your favourite tool/functionality?
We're big foodies over here - this is evidenced by Alex_Muc's excellent guide to homemade sushis and we're waiting for Michel's guide on homemade pizza 😉 - so, what is your favourite food or dish?

Hi Everybody,
It's probably time to introduce myself as I finally started replying to some messages (thanks Lizzie for the gentle nudge :-D).
I've been active in the Android "Enterprise" ecosystem for a very long time (here's me talking about Android Industrial mobility in 2015) and in "industrial mobility" for even longer.
I developed applications for many mobile OSes over the years (Dr.DOS, PalmOS, Windows CE, PocketPC, Windows Mobile and WEH) and I'm currently at Google having fun with Android Enterprise as a technical solution consultant.
