Can the default password app be set by admin in GEM for Android 16 users?
Based on the ongoing issues with Android 15 and setting password managers for users when an org uses GEM, has Android 16 removed this issue or does it remain?

Hi ekingquant
And thank you Michel for your help!
I’ve reached out to the team and they said that your EMM needs to allowlist the password managers they want to be allowed on the device.
For Google Workspace to allow 3rd party password managers, the final step allows enablement of the newly added setting/feature:
- Log in to your admin console as a super admin or admin with appropriate admin privileges.
- Navigate to Apps > Web and Mobile Apps and locate your 3p password manager app. If it is not here, please go ahead to add the app.
- Once you have it added or it is in the listing, open the password manager app. "Apps->Web and mobile apps-><3rdPartyAppYouAdded>"
- Click on Settings "Apps->Web and mobile apps-><3rdPartyAppYouAdded>->Settings"
- Scroll down to the option Password manager for Android 15+ and enable this. You can adjust this for the different OUs as needed
Not every EMM has opened this up for administrators to set. If a password manager isn't on the allowlist, autofill won't work correctly. If that’s the case for you, then you should follow up with your EMM to create the function to set the allowlist for password managers on the device.
Could you check with your EMM and let us know if they can sort out the allowlist for you?
