Option for MDM to place app shortcuts on home screen

We have a great wish to place shortcuts for specific apps on the home screen when the app is installed (or at a later point), but this doesn't seem to be possible.

When we discuss this with our MDM provider (SOTI), we are told, it is a Google/Android limitation, and this seems a bit strange to me; is it really not possible to place shortcuts on the home screen to your own liking?

I hope this resonates with others - or even better; that I can be corrected, and there is a smart and easy way to achieve this goal.

We run all our Android devices as fully managed, if that is relevant.

Moombas you mentioned this works 'partially' on DEX. Have you ever tried this? Just wondering how far it gets you to what you'd like to achieve?

    Anyone also tried this?

For the DEX screen only, yes.

There it worked at least as you can provide the app and X + Y coordinates and that worked well.

As you have only one screen, not as on normal homescreen, where you can have multiple, the "page" option is missing. And as said, limited to the dex screen itself, not affecting the normal home screen.

I tested DeX customization via the Knox Service Plugin quite a while ago. There is definitely a good selection of settings.

I believe that Samsung also supported a few basic settings such as a default background in Android Legacy. Even though it didn't work so well with COPE solutions, I thought it was a pity that it didn't make it into Android Enterprise.
